Lee Zii Jia’s resurgence gathered more momentum on Thursday as the Malaysian shuttler stormed into the PRINCESS SIRIVANNAVARI Thailand Masters 2026 quarter-finals, marking his first World Tour last-eight appearance in 10 months.
The former world No. 2, currently ranked No. 79, showed strong mental resolve to overturn a difficult start and defeat India’s world No. 60 Mithun Manjunath in a three-game battle 11-21, 21-16, 21-12
Zii Jia struggled early as Manjunath controlled the opening game with sharp pace and consistency, handing the Malaysian a heavy 11-21 setback.
But the All England champion responded with renewed aggression and composure, lifting his intensity in the second game to level the contest at 21-16.
With confidence flowing, Zii Jia dominated the decider, dictating rallies and closing out the match convincingly 21-12 to complete a morale-boosting comeback.
The victory sends Zii Jia into his first World Tour quarter-final since March last year, when he reached the last eight at the Orleans Masters.
It is another major step forward in what has been an encouraging revival run for the Malaysian after a long spell of inconsistent results.
Standing between Zii Jia and a semi-final spot is Indonesia’s in-form Alwi Farhan, who arrives in Bangkok with huge confidence after lifting the title at last week’s Indonesia Masters.
