The Asian Football Confederation has confirmed disciplinary action against Football Australia after Australia U17 Women’s National Team fielded an ineligible player during the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers Group E match against Northern Mariana Islands on October 13. 2025 at Bishan Stadium, Bishan.
The breach occurred violating Article 56 of the AFC Disciplinary and Ethics Code.
In one of the most dramatic administrative reversals in recent qualifiers, Australia’s original 22-0 victory was nullified by the AFC ruling. The match has now officially been recorded as a 3-0 defeat for Australia due to the eligibility breach.
The decision not only erased a dominant scoreline but also significantly impacted the group standings on paper.
In addition, Football Australia has been fined USD 1,000, payable within 30 days.
Remarkably, the санкция did not derail Australia’s qualification campaign.
Despite losing the 22-goal advantage, Australia still secured progression to the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 as Group E winners, advancing on a superior goal difference of +8.
This underlines just how dominant Australia were across the group stage, maintaining enough cushion to absorb the heavy administrative penalty.
