Johor Darul Ta’zim II strengthened their grip at the top of the Liga A1 Semi-Pro 2025/26 standings after producing a dramatic late comeback to defeat Selangor FC II 3-2 in a pulsating encounter at Stadium MPPG, Pasir Gudang.
The high-stakes clash lived up to expectations as both sides battled intensely in what could prove to be a decisive moment in the title race with only two matches remaining in the season.
Guided by head coach Josep Ferré, JDT II fielded an experienced lineup featuring national winger Mohamadou Sumareh, defender Junior Eldstal and Bosnian striker Ajdin Mujagic. Meanwhile, Selangor FC II relied heavily on their youthful squad as they aimed to steal valuable points away from home.
The hosts started brightly and quickly asserted control through composed possession football and sharp passing combinations, forcing Selangor FC II to absorb pressure while looking for opportunities on the counterattack.
JDT II broke the deadlock as early as the seventh minute when Sumareh powered home a looping header that deceived Selangor goalkeeper Hazriq Haqqim to hand the home side a deserved lead.
Five minutes later, Nazmi Faiz nearly doubled the advantage with a fierce long-range strike, but his effort narrowly missed the target.
Despite JDT II’s dominance, Hazriq Haqqim continued to keep Selangor alive with several important saves, including an excellent stop to deny Mujagic’s dangerous volley midway through the first half.
Against the run of play, Selangor FC II found their equaliser just before halftime through Haykal Danish, whose powerful finish stunned the home crowd and ensured both teams headed into the break level at 1-1.
The second half saw JDT II regain control of possession, but Selangor FC II emerged with greater attacking intent and began pressing higher up the pitch.
JDT II came close to restoring their lead in the 68th minute through Celso Bermejo, only for the opportunity to go begging after a tame effort was comfortably saved by Hazriq.
The visitors then silenced the stadium in the 82nd minute when Adam Haikal completed a swift attacking move to put Selangor FC II ahead 2-1, seemingly placing them on course for a crucial victory.
However, the league leaders refused to surrender. Veteran midfielder Syamer Kutty Abba stepped up in the 88th minute with a dramatic equaliser to reignite JDT II’s momentum before Mujagic emerged as the hero moments later with the winning goal that sealed a thrilling 3-2 triumph.
The victory now gives JDT II a crucial three-point cushion over second-placed Selangor FC II in the standings as the A1 Semi-Pro League title race enters its decisive final stretch.
