Johor Darul Ta’zim continued to rewrite Malaysian football history after equalling the world record of 108 consecutive league matches unbeaten following their stunning 14-1 victory over Kelantan TRW FC in the final match of the Liga Super Malaysia 2025/26 season at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
The remarkable achievement sees the Southern Tigers match the historic record previously held by Ivory Coast giants ASEC Mimosas, placing the Malaysian powerhouse alongside one of world football’s most iconic unbeaten runs.
JDT’s dominance in the domestic league has been unmatched over the past several years, with the club remaining unbeaten in the Malaysia Super League since April 2021. Their incredible consistency, depth, tactical discipline and winning mentality have transformed them into one of Southeast Asia’s most formidable football institutions.
The emphatic victory over Kelantan TRW FC also completed another flawless domestic league campaign for the club under head coach Xisco Munoz, while further underlining the massive gap between JDT and the rest of the competition in Malaysian football.
Adding even more significance to the achievement, JDT have now completed four consecutive unbeaten league seasons and six overall, having previously gone unbeaten in the 2016 and 2020 campaigns.
The Southern Tigers will now have the opportunity to officially break the world record when the 2026/27 Malaysia Super League season begins, with the opening fixture expected to take place in August.
What once seemed impossible is now within touching distance for JDT — a new world record that could cement the club’s status not only as Malaysia’s dominant force, but also as one of the most consistent league teams in global football history.
For Malaysian football, the achievement represents more than just statistics. It reflects the evolution of a club that continues to raise professional standards, attract international-quality talent, and push Southeast Asian football onto a bigger stage.
With momentum fully behind them and history within reach, JDT now stand one match away from creating a new benchmark in world football.
