Malaysia’s football landscape has been rocked by a bold and uncompromising move from Ultras Malaya, who have officially declared a boycott of the national team in response to ongoing concerns over governance and direction.
In a strongly worded statement, the influential supporters’ group confirmed that, after reviewing multiple structural and administrative issues, they are taking collective action under a unified stance—marking one of the most significant fan-led protests in recent Malaysian football history.
At the heart of the protest are three major demands presented publicly on 13 April 2026:
- Revocation of citizenship status for seven players
- Return of full management of the national team to the Football Association of Malaysia
- Comprehensive reform of Malaysian football
These demands reflect deeper frustrations over governance, transparency, and long-term planning within the sport.
Ultras Malaya announced the launch of “Boycott Phase 1”, which involves refusing to support or attend any matches involving the Malaysia national team, effective immediately.
The group has set a firm deadline of 31 August 2026 for authorities to address and implement the proposed changes. Failure to meet these demands will trigger “Boycott Phase 2”, which is expected to expand across the entire Malaysian football ecosystem, including domestic competitions.
Despite the strong tone, Ultras Malaya emphasized that their actions are not rooted in hatred toward the national team or any individuals. Instead, the movement is framed as a stand against Poor governance, Systemic failures, The misuse of football for personal or political interests
