Johor Darul Ta’zim made it two wins in a row in the Shopee Cup 2025/26 Group Stage after dismantling Thailand’s Bangkok United 4-0 at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
The opening half saw Bangkok United nearly snatch the lead when they were awarded a penalty in the 18th minute after Jon Irazabal was judged to have fouled inside the box. However, a VAR review overturned the decision, much to JDT’s relief.
JDT came close in the 30th minute when Óscar Arribas unleashed a powerful strike, but Bangkok goalkeeper Everton Goncalves pulled off a vital block. Despite dominating possession and creating more chances, the hosts failed to convert, leaving the scoreline goalless at halftime.
The deadlock was broken just 51 seconds into the second half when Arribas picked out Bergson Da Silva, who coolly slotted home to give JDT a 1-0 lead.
Bangkok nearly equalized in the 52nd minute after Rungrath Phumichantuk delivered a pinpoint cross to Muhsen Al Ghassani, but the Omani striker’s close-range header sailed over the bar.
Moments later, JDT struck again. This time, Bergson turned provider, setting up João Figueiredo to double the lead at 2-0.
The relentless pressure continued, and in the 73rd minute a swift counter-attack saw Arif Aiman’s initial shot saved by Patiwat Khammai, only for Bergson to pounce on the rebound and fire in at the near post for 3-0.
Deep into stoppage time, JDT delivered the knockout blow. Arribas initiated another counter, feeding Jairo Da Silva, whose low cross found Bergson. The Brazilian completed his brace with a sharp finish at the near post to seal the 4-0 triumph.
The final whistle confirmed JDT’s dominance as they secured back-to-back wins in the group stage, strengthening their bid to progress to the knockout rounds.
With this win, JDT sit atop Group B, while Bangkok United are left with work to do if they are to keep their qualification hopes alive.
