Johor Darul Ta’zim head coach Xisco Munoz has urged his players to remain disciplined and avoid giving any space to Bangkok United when the two sides meet in their second Shopee Cup 2025/26 on Thursday at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
The Southern Tigers will head into the match on the back of a resounding 8-0 victory over Sabah in the Liga Super, a result that has boosted their confidence ahead of the continental challenge.
Bangkok United, meanwhile, arrive in Johor with their morale dented following a defeat to Thai League giants Buriram United in their domestic campaign.
Munoz, reflecting on JDT’s own narrow defeat to Buriram earlier in the season, emphasized the need for sharpness and focus against Bangkok United.
“The match between Bangkok United and Buriram showed that both teams had the ability to win, just like when we faced Thunder Castle ourselves,” said Munoz at the pre-match press conference.
“Now, with the advantage of playing at home, we must show our mentality, strength, and character at the highest level. If you give Bangkok United space, they will punish you quickly.”
JDT have started the season strongly, recording seven wins and just one loss in eight matches. Their dominant form has kept fans confident despite the setback against Buriram in the Shopee Cup opener.
The highly anticipated JDT vs Bangkok United Shopee Cup clash will take place on Thursday, 25 September, at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 5:30 pm.
