Tampines Rovers head coach Noh Rahman is determined to see his side rise to the occasion when they face Selangor FC in their second group match of the Shopee Cup 2025/26 at the MBPJ Stadium tomorrow.
The former Singapore international acknowledged that Selangor, runners-up of the 2024/25 Malaysia Super League, remain a formidable force despite their recent struggles. He expects a large turnout of home fans but believes the occasion will serve as the “perfect challenge” for his players.
“We have watched Selangor’s games, but our focus is on our own performance and giving the best we can,” Noh said ahead of the clash.
“Playing across three different competitions makes it hard to maintain top form, so squad rotation is important. Regarding Selangor, yes, they have two or three players we need to pay close attention to. They are strong collectively, but we need to focus on our team and make it a competitive game.
“Selangor are a big club in Malaysia, and I expect a big crowd tomorrow. But I told my players this is the best kind of challenge we can ask for. We are here to compete with them.”
Tampines began their ACC campaign with a 3-1 victory over Cebu FC at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila last month, while Selangor opened with a 1-1 draw against Buriram United before faltering domestically and in the AFC Champions League Two.
The Group B encounter could prove pivotal as both clubs aim to secure early momentum in their quest for a place in the knockout stages.
