Johor Darul Ta’zim head coach Xisco Munoz praised his team’s consistency and character after the Southern Tigers stormed to a 4-0 win over Bangkok United FC in their Shopee Cup 2025/26 Group B clash at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri.
Munoz admitted the first half was a test, with both sides locked at 0-0 as Bangkok United pushed forward aggressively. But JDT reorganized after the break and produced a dominant second-half display.
“In the first half, we had to understand our opponents. Sometimes football is like that. But once we found the solution, I was very happy because the team delivered a great performance with very high commitment,” Munoz told reporters post-match.
Brazilian striker Bergson da Silva stole the spotlight, netting a hat-trick with goals in the 45th, 72nd, and 91st minutes. Fellow forward João Figueiredo added the other in the 51st minute, sealing JDT’s emphatic victory.
The win sees JDT climb to the top of Group B with six points from two matches, strengthening their bid for regional dominance. Next, the Southern Tigers travel to Cambodia to face PKR Svay Rieng FC at the Morodok Techno National Stadium on 4 December.
Munoz lauded Bergson’s impact, calling him a “big force” for the team.
“Bergson scored the goals, but I know he can give us even more. He works hard every day and has the right values for the team. He is not only a scorer but also a great teammate,” the Spaniard said.
The coach also singled out midfielder Antonio, whose composure and ability to balance attack and defense provided stability throughout the match.
Despite his hat-trick, Bergson remained humble, emphasizing the team effort behind the victory.
“For me, it’s not about whether I score or not. My first thought on the pitch is always to help my teammates. Whether I score three goals or none, my mindset is always the same – to keep supporting the team,” he said.
