Kuala Lumpur City continued their impressive run in the 2025/26 Liga Super Malaysia season after securing a 2–1 victory over Kelantan The Red Warriors FC at KLFA Stadium, Cheras.
Both sides displayed a balanced first half, with neither managing to find a breakthrough despite several promising opportunities.
Kelantan TRW came close in the 35th minute through Alexandre Yeoule, whose shot flew just over the crossbar, while Nor Azam Azih’s long-range strike three minutes later was comfortably saved by KL City goalkeeper Quincy Kammeraad.
At the other end, KL City’s Declan Lambert tested Kelantan TRW’s Damyan Damyanov with a powerful drive in the 43rd minute, before Safawi Rasid’s late first-half effort drifted narrowly wide.
The hosts increased their attacking intensity after the break, with Victor Ruiz and Giancarlo Gallifuoco forcing Damyanov into crucial saves in the 51st and 57th minutes.
KL City’s persistence finally paid off in the 65th minute, when Kpah Sherman coolly tapped in a low cross from Safawi Rasid to open the scoring — marking his first goal of the season for the club.
Substitute Zhafri Yahya doubled KL City’s advantage in the 81st minute, finishing clinically from a clever Ruiz assist to make it 2–0.
Kelantan TRW managed a consolation goal deep into stoppage time through Muhammad Syafik Ismail, but it was too little, too late to deny KL City the full three points.
With the victory, KL City climb to second place in the standings with 20 points from eight matches, just seven points behind JDT, who have played one game more. Kelantan TRW, meanwhile, sit seventh with 11 points.
