As anticipation builds for the Unifi Piala Malaysia 2024/25 Final, Sri Pahang FC head coach Fandi Ahmad has made it clear: the battle for starting positions is far from over.
With just two Super League matches remaining before the highly awaited clash against Johor Darul Ta’zim at Bukit Jalil National Stadium on April 26, Fandi is keeping his cards close to his chest — insisting that no position is guaranteed.
“We are still looking for the ‘tip of the spear’, someone who can shoot and finish off chances efficiently. There’s still time, and every player has a shot at proving himself before the final,” Fandi said.
His remarks come after Sri Pahang FC delivered a resounding 6-0 demolition of Kedah Darul Aman FC at the Stadium MPT, a result that sent a clear warning to JDT and the rest of Malaysian football — Tok Gajah are peaking at just the right time.
Despite the big win, Fandi remains grounded.
“This result gives us confidence, but we can’t afford to be comfortable. There’s still work to do — especially in tightening the midfield and defence. Every mistake counts at this stage,” he added.
Fandi also emphasized the dual objective of finishing strong in the Super League while sharpening the team for the Cup final. Sri Pahang currently sits in a competitive position and hopes to climb higher in the standings.
Looking ahead to the next league match against Perak FC, Fandi hinted at possible tactical shifts to maintain momentum and ensure his team stays sharp.
“The match against Perak will be a different challenge. We need to stay vigilant, compact in midfield and defence, and avoid giving away easy chances,” he noted.
The Malaysia Cup final marks a significant moment for Sri Pahang, who have not graced the grand stage in several years. With enthusiasm running high in the camp, Fandi believes his squad — if united and disciplined — can match JDT blow for blow.
“It’s been a long time since we’ve reached the final. Now that we’re here, the players are more motivated than ever. I believe in them,” Fandi concluded.
