Malaysia Women’s U19 National Team hopes of reaching the semi-finals were dashed after a crushing 4-0 defeat to Indonesia in their last Group B match of the ASEAN Girls’ U19 Championship 2025 at District 8 Stadium, Ho Chi Minh.
Coming into the match, the Malayan Tigress U-19 needed nothing less than a victory to progress, following a heavy 7-1 loss to Thailand earlier in the group stage. Unfortunately, Indonesia proved too strong on the day and ended Malaysia’s campaign.
Malaysia, led by captain Lauren Hoh Ruyi, relied on the attacking combination of Kaseh Carlmila Az Zahra and Ku Nuwairah Ku Mahadzir, with the creative duties entrusted to Cameron Ng.
The game started with Indonesia piling early pressure on the Malaysian defence, which was marshaled by goalkeeper Daliea Eliesa Mohd Hafiz. Their efforts paid off just nine minutes in, as Nasywa Salsabila opened the scoring to give Indonesia the lead.
Despite Malaysia’s attempts to regroup and search for an equalizer, they were stunned again when Sydney Hopper doubled Indonesia’s advantage in the 28th minute.
The first half ended 2-0, with Malaysia struggling to find rhythm against a well-organized Indonesian side.
In the second half, Malaysia looked to raise their tempo and salvage the match. However, any hopes of a comeback were extinguished in the 60th minute when Jezlyn Kayla Azkha scored Indonesia’s third.
As Malaysia pushed forward, gaps appeared at the back. Indonesia capitalized again through Allya Putri Afianti, who struck the fourth goal in the 80th minute, sealing a dominant performance.
With the loss, Malaysia finished third in Group B with three points from three matches, ending their AFF U-19 campaign. Indonesia secured the runner-up spot, joining group winners Thailand—who defeated Cambodia 4-0—in the semi-finals.
