Football Association of Singapore (FAS) has officially confirmed that Mr. Tsutomu Ogura has stepped down from his role as Head Coach of the Singapore National Team, effective immediately, due to personal reasons.
Mr. Ogura, who took the reins with hopes of revitalizing the Lions’ fortunes on the international stage, informed FAS of his intention to step down several weeks ago, citing urgent personal matters in his home country of Japan. Since then, the FAS Executive Committee has worked closely with Mr. Ogura to explore potential solutions to enable his continued leadership of the national team.
Despite mutual interest and earnest efforts to extend the partnership, the pressing nature of the personal issues ultimately made it impossible for him to remain in his role.
“The FAS respects Mr. Ogura’s decision and extends its sincere appreciation for his professionalism, commitment, and contribution to Singapore football during his time at the helm,” the association said in an official statement. “We wish him and his family well in their future endeavors.”
In the wake of Ogura’s departure, FAS has appointed Mr. Gavin Lee as interim Head Coach of the national team. Lee, a respected figure in Singapore football, previously served as the Head Coach of BG Tampines Rovers FC and is known for his modern tactical approach and strong rapport with local players.
FAS also confirmed that the search for a new permanent Head Coach has already begun. The association is determined to appoint a candidate with the vision, technical expertise, and leadership qualities needed to guide Singapore to greater heights on the regional and international stage.
“The FAS is committed to securing a candidate who will not only elevate the performance of the National Team but also contribute to the long-term growth and development of Singapore football.”
With crucial fixtures on the horizon and preparations for upcoming international tournaments underway, Gavin Lee now shoulders the immediate responsibility of steering the national team forward while a global search for a long-term replacement intensifies.
