Malaysia’s national football team, is officially heading to Central Asia to participate in the prestigious CAFA Nations Cup 2025, marking a major step forward in their international ambitions.
The Malaysia National Team confirmed the news via social media, announcing that Harimau Malaya will join eight prominent national teams, including Iran and Uzbekistan, in the tournament scheduled to take place from August 26 to September 9.
“This is not only an honour for the team, but also a stepping stone toward achieving greater dreams on the international stage,” read the official statement.
The CAFA Nations Cup will feature host nations Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, with other confirmed participants being Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Oman (as the guest team). The 2025 edition will be only the second time the tournament is held, making Malaysia’s debut appearance even more significant.
Malaysia head coach Peter Cklamovski believes the tournament will serve as a vital development tool and a true test for the national squad:
