Round 8 of the PETRONAS Malaysian Cub Prix Championship took place for the first time in 30 years at Bandar Medini Iskandar. Md Akid Aziz of PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha – CKJ Racing Team marked the fastest lap time in the qualifying session for the CP150 race category.

During the free practice session that was held in the morning, Akid Aziz of PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha – CKJ Racing marked the fastest lap time at 43’010s followed by his teammates Afif Amran with his best lap time at 43’161s and Izzat Zaidi with his best lap time at 43’164s. In qualifying session 1, Akid Aziz once again scored the fastest lap time with his best at 43’150s followed by his teammate Izzat Zaidi with his best lap time at 43’267s. Honda rider, Azroy Hakeem of Honda Yuzy Estremo Team marked third fastest with his best lap time at 43’327s.

In the second qualifying session, Akid Aziz went on to record an improved lap time at 43’137s. Akid currently sits at the top in the overall standings with a total of 121 points, 7 points more than his teammate Afif Amran who sits at the second spot overall. Although the Medini circuit is fairly new to the riders of Cub Prix, Akid seemed to have grasped an in-depth understanding of the circuit in such a short period of time and emerged with an impressive lap time in the qualifying session today.

Commenting on the session, Akid said, “For the qualifying 2 session, I made some changes in the setup of my machine. With that change, I was more confident and I was able to do a better lap time on each lap. Although Afif’s overall points are not very far off from my overall points, we work together as a team and do not have specific strategies that gives me an added advantage. We fight fairly and together, try our best to dominate the race category for the season. Whoever wins, it’s his blessings.”

Taking the second fastest spot was Izzat Zaidi with his best lap time at 43’184s.

Azroy Hakeem Anuar made it third fastest with his best lap time at 43’354s.

For the CP125 race category, Md Khairi Ashraf of Jetron Yamaha YYPang Racing Team made the fastest lap time in the qualifying session that was held at Bandar Medini Iskandar.

In the morning during the free practice session 1, Jetron Yamaha YYPang Racing Team came back to strike once again when all three of their riders clocked in the fastest lap time for the top three positions. Shafiq Ezzariq with his fastest lap time at 45’753s followed by Fareez Afeez and Khairi Ashraf with their best lap time at 45’804s and 45’984s respectively. In the second free practice session that went on this afternoon, Fareez Afeez worked on his lap time and scored the fastest at 45’491s followed by his teammate Shafiq Ezzariq with his best lap time at 45’640s. At the third fastest was Adie Putra of PETRONAS Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor with his best lap time at 45’786s.

In the qualifying session earlier today, Khairi Ashraf worked on his performances before he marked the fastest for the day with his best lap time at 45’468s. Khairi who hails at the top of the overall chart with a total of 109 points will be striding alongside his teammate, Shafiq who was equally impressive at Medini circuit in what will determine the overall position for the two riders.

Commenting on the session, Khairi said, “I tried my best earlier. In FP1 and FP2, we found the right setup for the machine. Therefore, during the qualifying session earlier, I was able to obtain a good lap time. Winning is definitely luck. Of course, I want to take the win because this is my home ground. But, we as teammates do not have a specific strategy that is for myself alone. We will fight equally and will do our best in the Shoot-Out session tomorrow.”

Second fastest was teammate Fareez Afeez with his best lap time at 45’562s.

Shafiq Ezzariq also from the same team marked third fastest with his best lap time at 45’655s.

Meanwhile, Farish Iqmal of Bad Lab Honda KC Racing clocked in fastest in the qualifying session of the Wira KBS race category that was held at Bandar Medini Iskandar.

During the free practice session 1 earlier this morning, Md Iman Fahmi of Tekhne Yamaha team logged the fastest lap time at 47’483s. Md Akif of Bad Lab Honda KC Racing made it second fastest with his best lap time at 47’516s. At the third fastest was Emil Idzhar of Yamaha Estremo 27 Racing with his best lap time at 47’786s. In the free practice session 2, Emil Idzhar bettered his lap time and logged in fastest at 46’691s. Riders of the same team, Md Akif and Farish Iqmal clocked in second and third fastest with their best lap time at 47’018s and 47’064s respectively.

In the qualifying session that went on this evening, Farish Iqmal embraced the challenge of Medini circuit and recorded the fastest lap time at 46’535s. Farish Iqmal currently takes the second spot in the overall standings with a total of 105 points, 9 points behind the current top scorer of the season. Farish is definitely determined to chase down his competitor for the champion title and it looks like he would be riding competitively in the race tomorrow.”

Commenting on the qualifying session, Farish said, “Earlier during the qualifying session, my teammates and I did our best in maximising our capacities for the day. Our team has definitely worked out a strategy for tomorrow’s race and we will do our best to fight competitively.”

Second fastest place went to his teammate, Adib Hareez with his best lap time at 46’845s.
