Marc Marquez celebrated his landmark 100th career pole position with a thrilling Tissot Sprint victory at the 2025 MotoGP Italian Grand Prix, taming Mugello with signature flair in a chaotic, high-speed spectacle.
The Ducati Lenovo Team star led a Marquez brothers 1-2 finish, with Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing) finishing second and Francesco Bagnaia settling for third on home soil.
The drama began even before the race started, as Marc Marquez appeared momentarily distracted at the line, allowing Bagnaia to grab the holeshot into San Donato. Alex Marquez surged into second, turning the opening corners into a Ducati showcase.
But further back, chaos erupted. Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) collided with Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Racing), taking Johann Zarco (Honda LCR) down with them. Moments later, Pedro Acosta crashed at Turn 15, ending his race before completing a lap.
By Lap 2, Marc had clawed back to third and launched an audacious move into Turn 1, going three-wide with Alex and Bagnaia. While he briefly led, both Marquez brothers ran wide, allowing Mugello master Bagnaia back through. The trio diced fiercely in the opening laps before Marc reasserted dominance with a textbook overtake at Turn 4.
Behind them, a fierce battle for fifth saw Di Giannantonio, Franco Morbidelli, and Fabio Quartararo slug it out. But Quartararo, struggling for grip, faded as Marco Bezzecchi and Raul Fernandez pushed through.
Marc made his decisive move on Lap 4 to retake the lead from Alex, quickly building a one-second buffer. But Alex remained in pursuit, keeping the pressure on in a bid for a family upset. Bagnaia, meanwhile, slipped into the clutches of Maverick Viñales (Red Bull KTM Tech3), who nearly stole third in the final laps.
In the end, Marc Marquez held firm, crossing the line to secure a statement win at Mugello, celebrating his century pole with a victory in the backyard of his teammate and title rival, Bagnaia.
