From the gravel to the top step! Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing) silenced his critics in the most dominant fashion imaginable, turning a Saturday Sprint disaster into a Sunday masterclass.
The Aprilia Racing star led from lights to flag to claim the opening victory of the 2026 MotoGP season, leaving the rest of the pack in his wake at the Chang International Circuit.
While “Bez” was in a league of his own, the race behind him was a chaotic war of attrition that saw the championship hopes of the Marquez brothers go up in smoke.
Bezzecchi didn’t just win; he demoralized the field. Launching perfectly from pole position, the Italian stayed calm and clinical, clocking a blistering fastest lap of 1:30.703.
By mid-race, Bezzecchi had stretched his lead to over a second, eventually crossing the line with a time record 39:36.270 minutes and a massive 5.543-second advantage.
While Marc Marquez held the advantage in raw Top Speed, he simply had no answer for the corner speed and surgical precision of Bezzecchi’s Aprilia.
The Buriram heat proved too much for the Gresini and Ducati stables. In the final 5 laps, the battle for the podium turned into a nightmare:
- Marc Marquez: After fighting tooth and nail with Pedro Acosta for P2, the #93 was forced to retire due to a catastrophic rear tire issue.
- Alex Marquez: Moments later, the younger Marquez brother lost the front and crashed out, ensuring a zero-point weekend for the famous siblings.
- Joan Mir: The technical gremlins weren’t done, as the Honda man also retired with just 3 laps to go.
The 2026 Thai GP didn’t just deliver on track; it made history in the stands. The “Land of Smiles” proved its status as a MotoGP powerhouse, shattering the previous attendance record set in 2019 with 228,228 people.
With Bezzecchi holding the winner’s trophy and Pedro Acosta securing more valuable points in P2, the championship now heads to South America.
The paddock moves to the Autódromo Internacional de Goiânia for the Estrella Galicia 0,0 Grand Prix of Brazil on March 20-22.
