Shukor Adan has set his sights on leading Malaysia U-16 into the final of the ASEAN U17 Boys’ Championship 2026, declaring it a realistic and motivating target following their strong run to the semi-finals.
The former national defender believes his young squad has both the belief and momentum to go all the way — with the team now just one step away from their first final appearance since 2019.
Speaking after Malaysia secured their semi-final berth, Shukor made his ambitions clear.
“Now that we’ve reached the semi-finals, our target is to make the final. That’s what I’ve told the players — we must give everything to get there.”
He emphasized that the goal is not only his personal expectation but one shared across the squad, highlighting the players’ strong mentality and hunger to succeed.
Despite the growing excitement, Shukor remains grounded, stressing the importance of taking it one match at a time.
Malaysia will face Laos in the semi-finals — a side that stunned Thailand 3-2 to top Group B.
“The match against Laos is the most important right now. We focus step by step. That’s our approach heading into Wednesday.”
Malaysia progressed as one of the best runners-up after collecting six points in Group A, showing resilience and growth throughout the tournament.
Shukor expressed confidence in his players’ mindset, noting their determination to rise to the occasion on the regional stage.
