The Malaysian government has confirmed a major step toward inclusive sports broadcasting, naming Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and Unifi TV as the primary platforms to deliver comprehensive coverage of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Communications Minister Ahmad Fahmi Fadzil announced that the initiative is part of the MADANI government’s commitment to ensure nationwide access to the world’s biggest football tournament through a strategic collaboration with the private sector.
Under the plan, fans across Malaysia will be able to enjoy matches through multiple viewing options. Free-to-air broadcasts will be available via MYTV, while digital streaming services will be offered through RTMKlik and Unifi TV, ensuring accessibility across both traditional and modern platforms.
In terms of coverage, all 104 matches of the tournament will be broadcast live on Unifi TV. RTM, meanwhile, will air a significant number of matches either live or on delayed telecast, giving fans greater flexibility in how they follow the action.
Beyond live matches, RTM will produce special “grandstand” programmes from Angkasapuri Kota Media, primarily in Bahasa Melayu with selected segments in English. Daily updates and highlights will also be featured on flagship shows such as Selamat Pagi Malaysia, keeping fans connected throughout the tournament.
To further elevate the fan experience, the government is planning public viewing events at selected locations nationwide — a move aimed at bringing communities together during the global spectacle.
Authorities also confirmed that several major sponsors have been identified, with final negotiations underway ahead of an official announcement.
For fans preferring digital access, the RTMKlik app — available on both Google Play and Apple App Store — has been highlighted as a key platform to stream matches and follow tournament content on the go.
