Malaysia’s hopes at the Perodua Malaysia Masters 2026 continue to burn brightly after national men’s doubles stars Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani delivered another commanding performance to storm into the quarter-finals on Thursday.
The world No. 3 pair once again proved why they are among the favourites for the HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 title after brushing aside fellow Malaysians Chia Wei Jie-Teo Ee Yi 21-14, 21-12 in the Round of 16 at Axiata Arena.
Sze Fei-Izzuddin displayed complete control throughout the encounter, combining explosive attacking play with sharp defensive organisation to seal victory in just two straight games. Their aggressive tempo and confidence at the net left little room for their compatriots to respond as the pair strengthened their status as Malaysia’s leading title contender on home soil.
The victory also continues the duo’s excellent form in 2026, with the pair looking increasingly mature and consistent in major tournaments.
Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik also progressed comfortably after dismantling France’s Julien Maio-William Villeger 21-12, 21-10 in another dominant display.
Another all-Malaysian clash saw fifth seeds Arif Junaidi-Yap Roy King overcome Kang Khai Xing-Aaron Tai 21-12, 22-20 to advance into the last eight.
In mixed doubles, second seeds Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei survived a tense battle against Indonesia’s Amri Syahnawi-Nita Violina Marwah before sealing a hard-fought 21-19, 22-20 victory to keep Malaysia’s challenge alive.
However, sixth seeds Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Lai Jemie suffered a disappointing exit after falling 19-21, 21-7, 19-21 to Taiwan’s Wu Guan Xun-Lee Chia Hsin in a closely contested three-game battle.
Women’s singles player Letshanaa Karupathevan produced one of the biggest surprises of the day by defeating Japan’s third seed Tomoka Miyazaki 21-15, 21-17 in a stunning straight-games upset.
Unfortunately, it was the end of the road for Goh Jin Wei, who was beaten 13-21, 16-21 by India’s Ashmita Chaliha.
Malaysia also endured disappointment in men’s doubles after Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong were eliminated by American pair Chen Zhi Yi-Presley Smith 14-21, 18-21.
Still, with Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin continuing to look increasingly unstoppable, Malaysian fans now have genuine reason to dream of a home men’s doubles triumph in Kuala Lumpur.
