Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) website has praised Malaysia again after its recent exceptional performance in FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers.
Despite Malaysia just being eliminated in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 as 4th place of Group E. But Malaysia has performed best in FIFA World Cup 2026 Asian Qualifiers as 1st place in Group D after winning the Kyrgyz Republic and Chinese Taipei and is only one team from pot 3 to be a group leader.
The FIFA website shares the story of the journey of the 5 teams from 5 regions in the world currently going through a good period in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers round.
“While the other AFC second-round sections are all led by traditional heavyweights such as Japan, Korea Republic and Saudi Arabia, Malaysia stand apart as the unexpected pace-setters in Group D. They boast the section’s only unblemished record, in fact, after hard-fought victories over Kyrgyz Republic (4-3) and Chinese Taipei (1-0) in November.” FIFA said on website.
“Oman, who are ranked 74th – 56 places above the Malaysians – and will need to be faced twice in March, remain favourites to top the group. Kim Pangon’s team have, though, earned the right to dream.”
“If we can make it to the third round of World Cup qualifying, that would bring a lot of joy to the Malaysian people. I want to make big strides in terms of football development.” Kim Pangon, head coach of Malaysia national team said on FIFA.
