Myanmar will now turn their full attention to the ASEAN Hyundai Cup 2026 after suffering a 4-0 defeat to Vietnam in an international friendly on Saturday, with Myanmar set to face Malaysia in their Group B opener on 25 July.
The friendly served as an important final tune-up for Myanmar ahead of the regional tournament, offering valuable lessons despite the disappointing result against one of Southeast Asia’s strongest sides.
Myanmar found themselves behind just five minutes into the match when Xuan Son fired Vietnam ahead with a stunning first-time volley.
Despite conceding early, Myanmar remained disciplined and looked to threaten through quick counter-attacks, creating several promising moments that forced Vietnam’s defence to stay alert.
The visitors gradually settled into the contest and managed to frustrate the hosts for long periods before Vietnam doubled their advantage shortly before half-time through Xuan Manh’s powerful header.
Trailing 2-0 after the break, Myanmar continued to search for opportunities while defending against sustained Vietnamese pressure.
However, Vietnam’s quality eventually proved decisive as Hoang Hen curled home a superb long-range effort in the 59th minute before Dinh Bac converted a late penalty to complete the 4-0 victory.
Although the scoreline was convincing, Myanmar showed glimpses of attacking intent throughout the match and will hope to build on those positives heading into competitive action.
