Kedah Darul Aman earned 3 points in their home after beating Penang FC scoring 1-0 in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Darul Aman Stadium, Alor Setar.
The visitors, Penang FC, made their intentions clear from the first whistle, with Wenzel Halls launching a threatening attack in the opening minute, though his effort narrowly missed the target.
Kedah responded swiftly, with winger Sukhrob Nurulloev spearheading a quick counterattack just three minutes later. However, the Uzbek’s cross into the box failed to connect cleanly with striker Milos Gordic, denying the home side an early lead.
The Canaries kept pressing and nearly broke the deadlock in the 5th minute through a powerful shot by Fayadh Zulkifli, but Penang’s goalkeeper Sikh Izhan was up to the task with an impressive save.
Kedah’s relentless pressure finally paid off in the 10th minute. A well-timed header from Gordic found Sukhrob Nurulloev, who calmly slotted the ball past Sikh Izhan, giving the home team a crucial advantage.
Penang FC tried to rally, with midfielder Syamer Kutty Abba coming close in the 32nd minute, but his effort soared over the crossbar, leaving the visitors trailing 1-0 at halftime.
The second half saw Penang FC intensify their attacks under head coach Wan Rohaimi Wan Ismail. Wenzel Halls, a constant menace to the Kedah defense, had a golden opportunity to level the score in the 52nd minute, but his shot veered off target.
Despite Penang’s increased efforts, Kedah’s defense, led by coach Victor Andrag, held firm to preserve their slender lead. The home side managed the game effectively in the closing stages, frustrating their opponents and ensuring the scoreline remained unchanged.
The win propelled Kedah to ninth place with 17 points, a two-spot improvement in the league standings. Meanwhile, Penang FC remains in a precarious position, struggling to find consistency this season.
