Kedah Darul Aman FC (KDA FC) is facing one of the most challenging chapters in its history as financial instability threatens its survival.
Despite mounting pressures to dissolve the club, the management, led by the majority shareholder, remains steadfast in their commitment to sustaining the legacy of Kedah football.
The situation is dire, with calls from some parties suggesting that KDA FC wind up its operations, which would mean terminating the contracts of over 100 players and staff members. However, the club’s majority shareholder has chosen to persevere, stating, “KDA FC is the legacy of all as people of Kedah Darul Aman. How could I give up before I tried first?”
This determination was evident earlier this year when the club managed to settle salary arrears from the 2023 season by April 2024, enabling its participation in the 2024/2025 season.
The club’s financial woes are far from over. Monthly expenses remain exorbitant, and without a primary sponsor or significant external support, the burden falls on the majority shareholder and minor contributions from individual sponsors, ticket sales, and merchandise revenue.
In light of these challenges, several players have accepted offers from other clubs. The management acknowledges these decisions, emphasizing the mutual understanding between the players and the club. “They had to make this decision. This is the current reality of the world of work,” the shareholder explained.
Amid the turmoil, the true heroes of KDA FC are its players, officials, and staff, who continue to give their all despite unpaid salaries and dwindling fan support. “They still come out to play and fight with full dedication despite the challenges,” the shareholder praised.
The majority shareholder has issued a heartfelt plea to the people of Kedah: “O children of Kedah who have pure hearts and green and yellow blood, do something for your club and team. Expecting something and doing something are two different things.”
The club is seeking assistance in any form—financial, sponsorship, partnerships, or even moral support—to ensure its survival.
Despite the odds, KDA FC is committed to completing the current season. The management continues to explore funding opportunities to honor their obligations to players and staff while keeping the club afloat.
In a message of gratitude, the shareholder thanked those who have remained loyal and supportive during these tough times, stating, “Your attitude and character give a little light in the dark night.”
