Selangor FC is on the verge of lifting the Challenge Cup, aiming to end a decade-long trophy drought in the Malaysia League.
The Red Giants last tasted silverware in 2015, when they secured their record-extending 33rd Malaysia Cup title. Now, with a 3-2 lead from the first leg, they are determined to prevent PDRM FC from staging a comeback in the second-leg final at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium (MBPJ) tomorrow night.
Despite holding the advantage, head coach Katsuhito Kinoshi urged his players to remain fully focused and finish the match within 90 minutes.
“We already have our strategy for the final match. In the first leg, we played with 10 men for over 80 minutes. This time, I hope we stay with 11 players.”
The Japanese tactician also warned against defensive lapses, highlighting the danger of PDRM’s counterattacks and set-pieces.
“I want the players to maintain their style of play, avoid conceding penalties, and most importantly, finish the game in normal time without going to a penalty shootout.”
Selangor will be without captain Safuwan Baharudin, who is suspended after receiving a red card in the first leg.
Meanwhile, Nooa Laine, who could take on the captain’s armband, remains optimistic and wants his team to push for more goals.
“We only have a one-goal advantage. I want my teammates to perform as usual, focus on winning, and score as many goals as possible,” said Laine.
With the Challenge Cup title within reach, Selangor FC is eager to end their championship drought and re-establish their dominance in Malaysian football.
