Malaysia’s rising dominance in world badminton continued to shine as three out of five national pairs surged into the semi-finals of the Indonesia Open 2025, held at the iconic Istora Senayan, Jakarta.
The impressive run highlights the continued momentum and growth of Malaysia’s shuttlers on the international stage, signalling a new era of confidence and consistency.
Mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei were the first to punch their ticket to the last four after a gritty comeback win against Denmark’s Jesper Toft-Amalie Magelund. Despite dropping the first set, the Malaysians responded with determination, clinching victory 17-21, 21-16, 21-14 to keep Malaysia’s hopes alive.
In one of the most thrilling matches of the day, Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun, last year’s finalists, displayed nerves of steel to defeat the formidable Indian duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in straight sets, 21-19, 21-16.
It marked a historic first victory for the Malaysians over the Indian pair, having lost all four of their previous encounters.
Malaysia’s top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah continued their sizzling form with a dominant performance against Japan’s Rin Iwanaga-Kie Nakanishi, winning 21-6, 21-18 in straight sets. The pair looked sharp, aggressive, and tactically flawless from start to finish.
However, it was heartbreak for the mixed doubles duo Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai, who were outplayed by Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran, falling 16-21, 12-21.
In the men’s doubles, Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani saw their campaign come to an end after a closely fought three-set loss to Indonesia’s Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani, 19-21, 21-9, 19-21.
