Exactly one year after national footballer Faisal Halim was horrifically attacked with acid, the case has been officially classified as “No Further Action” (NFA) by the Attorney General’s Chambers, leaving the player and his legal team deeply disappointed.
The nation was shaken on 5 May 2024 when news broke that Faisal, a prominent winger for Selangor FC and the Malaysia national team (Harimau Malaya), was the victim of a brutal acid attack at a shopping mall in the capital. The incident left him with severe injuries, requiring multiple surgeries and threatening to end his football career.
In a press conference on Thursday, Faisal Halim’s lawyer revealed that they had received an official notification letter from the Attorney General’s Chambers, confirming that the investigation had been closed due to a lack of leads.
“We have received a letter from the Attorney General’s Chambers informing us that the case has been classified as No Further Action (NFA),” the lawyer stated, as reported by Astro Arena journalist Zulhelmi Zainal Azam.
According to the letter, despite extensive efforts, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) were unable to identify or apprehend any suspects connected to the attack. The lack of evidence or credible leads has effectively ended the investigation.
“The letter also stated that police efforts to trace any individual behind the incident yielded no results. No evidence was found to link any person to the attack,” the lawyer added.
“Our client (Faisal Halim) is clearly disheartened and frustrated with the outcome of the investigation.”
The closure of the case has raised serious concerns among the public about the safety of athletes and the effectiveness of criminal investigations involving high-profile figures. Many fans and members of the football community have expressed outrage on social media, demanding justice and greater accountability.
Faisal Halim, widely regarded as one of Malaysia’s brightest football talents, made a miraculous recovery and returned to the field in late 2024, becoming a symbol of resilience and courage. However, the lack of closure in his case leaves a painful chapter unresolved.
This latest development now places the focus on whether authorities will revisit the case if new evidence surfaces, and how the legal system can better serve victims of violent crimes in the future.
