In a stunning move that has sent shockwaves through Thai football, newly-promoted Thai League 1, Kanchanaburi Power FC, have comfirmed the signing of Andros Townsend, the 32-year-old former England National Tean winger from Turkish club Antalyaspor.
The high-profile signing marks a historic moment for the Kanchanaburi-based club, as they secure a player with proven Premier League pedigree to bolster their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season. Townsend is set to arrive in Thailand tomorrow to begin his new chapter in Southeast Asia.
Townsend, who began his career at Tottenham Hotspur, rose through the youth ranks and made his senior debut for Spurs in 2009. Over the years, he gained top-flight experience through multiple loan spells across English lower leagues before securing a permanent move to Newcastle United in 2016 for £12 million. He later joined Crystal Palace in the same year for £13 million, where he became a regular fixture in the Premier League.
Following successful stints with Everton and Luton Town, Townsend moved to Antalyaspor in the Turkish Süper Lig. Now, he takes a bold step into Asian football with an ambition to make a significant impact in Thailand’s top tier.
Kanchanaburi Power FC is the new club of Ezequiel Aguero, striker for the Malaysia National Team, which he joined in the same transfer window.
