Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has confirmed that its appeal to the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has been rejected, marking a significant development in the ongoing disciplinary case involving Malaysian football.
In an official statement, Acting FAM President Datuk Wira Mohd Yusoff Haji Mahadi announced that the association will formally request the full written reasoning behind FIFA’s decision before taking the next step to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Switzerland.
“FAM will write to FIFA to obtain detailed information and the written justification of the decision before deciding on the next steps to file an appeal to CAS,” said Datuk Wira Yusoff.
He further expressed that this was an unprecedented situation for the governing body, and both FAM’s legal and management teams were shocked by the decision.
“This is the first time FAM has faced a situation like this, and our lawyers and management are very surprised by the outcome. However, FAM remains firm in defending the rights of our players and the interests of Malaysian football at the international level.”
The rejected appeal relates to the recent FIFA disciplinary ruling involving seven Malaysian players and the eligibility documentation issue that led to sanctions against FAM.
With the appeal dismissed, FAM’s last legal recourse now lies with CAS, the highest authority in global sports arbitration.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to upholding transparency and justice, emphasizing that it will continue to act in the best interest of Malaysian football as it navigates this complex international legal process.
