Bangkok United, a club from Thailand, made a surprise after tying Yokohama F.Marinos, a club from Japan, scoring 2-2 in the AFC Champions League 2023/24 Round of 16(East Zone) first leg at Thammasat Stadium, Pathum Thani.
In this match, Bangkok opened an attack on the Marinos and got opportunities.
But in the 18th minute, following a corner kick of Marinos and Élber shot from very close range to the goal, Marinos led 1-0.
In the 24th minute, the Marinos opened to attack again, and Anderson Lopes passed the ball to the right side for Kota Watanabe to shoot from outside the box to the Goal; Marinos led 2-0.
Bangkok tried too much to find the goal, and in the 35th minute, Bangkok attacked, and Rungrath Phumichantuk passed into the box for Nitipong Melanin, who shot a difficult angle to the goal; Bangkok followed 1-2.
In the remaining time of the first half, there was no additional score, ending the first half with Marinos leading 2-1.
In the second half, both sides got more goal opportunities but couldn’t convert that.
But in the stoppage time, in the 90+2 minute, following the attack of Bangkok and Nitipong Selanon crossing to Mahmoud Eid’s header into the goal, Bangkok equalized 2-2.
And in the 90+6 minute, Marinos remained 10 players following Ken Matsubara’s bad foul to Vander Luis and got a direct red card and sent off.
In the remaining time, no additional score, ending both tied 2-2
Yokohama F.Marinos will be a home team at Yokohama International Stadium on 21 February in the second match.
