Dr.Johan Kamal Hamidon, Selangor FC chief executive officer said the team had never received financial assistance from Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, Owner of JDT. since being under the leadership of Selangor Raja Muda, Tunku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
Tunku Ismail, who is also the owner of Johor Darul Takzim, revealed a few days ago that he had helped several teams financially for the purpose of resolving salary problems, including Selangor FC twice but he did not reveal further details on when and the amount handed out.
In fact, TMJ also said that apart from Selangor, he also helped teams such as Kelantan, Penang, Melaka and the latest Perak FC which are facing financial crisis, stating that if you do not believe, you can ask the owner of the body,
The supporters of the Red Giants team were clearly unhappy with the news and therefore ‘raided’ Johan Kamal to provide an explanation on the validity of the revelation.
“As many have asked, I would like to clarify that under the leadership of Tunku RMS since July 2018, Selangor has never received any financial assistance from other teams. The club’s funds are only from official sponsors and commercialization activities,” Dr.Johan Kamal said on his Twitter.
Based on the denial by Johan Kamal, it is very likely that financial assistance from Tunku Ismail was received by Selangor when they were still under the previous management, either when held by the Selangor Menteri Besar or Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal where at that time they were known to go through a difficult phase.
After being taken over by Tunku Amir and going through the privatization process, the finances of the red and yellow giants look strong and they are now considered as one of the luxury teams in the Malaysian League that is not squeezed by any salary-related issues.
