Nidzam Jamil, head coach of Selangor FC expressed satisfaction with his team’s attacking display, despite their narrow 1-0 win over Dynamic Herb Cebu FC in their second match of the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25 Grup Stage, Group H.
While the margin of victory was slim, Nidzam emphasized the importance of securing the three points in Thursday’s match, which he believes marks a solid start to Selangor’s Asian campaign.
“We are happy with this win, and now we have collected four points from two games. I think this is a good start for Selangor,” Nidzam stated during the post-match press conference.
Although Selangor only managed to score once, Nidzam took comfort in the fact that his side continued to create chances throughout the game. This, he believes, is a positive indicator for the team’s future performances.
“I’m more afraid if we don’t create opportunities. If we continue to create like this, I think there is still hope,” he added, reflecting on the importance of maintaining offensive pressure.
Nidzam further expressed frustration at the idea of his team failing to generate chances but remained encouraged by their consistent efforts to breach the opposition’s defense. He highlighted the significance of both attacking and defending cohesively, which contributed to their clean sheet.
“If we don’t directly create opportunities in football, I think we need to check again. What I want to convey here is that we didn’t concede and we scored a goal.”
Nidzam acknowledged that while a more dominant scoreline would have been ideal, the 1-0 result was fair given the disciplined performance from Dynamic Herb Cebu FC.
“Of course all teams dream of 3-0, 4-0, or 5-0, but in football, we respect the opposing team. It is not easy to meet such a disciplined opponent.”
While Selangor created multiple chances, Nidzam admitted that the close result was reflective of the tough competition and the challenges posed by their disciplined opponents.
With this victory, The Red Giants sit second in Group H with four points from their first two matches, following an earlier draw. Nidzam remains hopeful for the remainder of the tournament, confident that his team’s ability to create chances will keep them competitive as they push for further success in the group stage.
