Malaysia’s men’s hockey team sent a thunderous statement on Day 1 of the SEA Games 2025 after annihilating Myanmar 21–1 in their opening round-robin match at the Thailand National Sport University Chonburi Campus, Chonburi today.
Coached by the experienced Sarjit Singh, the senior squad showed zero mercy from start to finish, dominating possession, tempo, and scoring with clinical precision
Malaysia’s attacking fireworks were spearheaded by Muhammad Azrai Aizad Abu Kamal, who delivered a stunning seven-goal masterclass in the 2nd, 8th, 12th, 31st, 47th, 57th, and 59th minutes.
He was not alone in the scoring parade by Syed Mohammad Syafiq Syed Cholan – 4 goals (3’, 21’, 27’, 30’), Norsyafiq Sumantri – 3 goals (17’, 37’, 56’), Muhajir Abdu Rauf – 2 goals (2’, 50’), Mohd Fitri Saari – 2 goals (36’, 40’), and another one goal by Amanraj Singh (22’), Alfarico Lance Liau Jr (39’), Shello Silverius (60’) – completing the 21-goal demolition
Myanmar’s lone moment of joy came via an 18th-minute penalty stroke converted by Oo Thein Htike.
Malaysia remains the undisputed powerhouse of SEA Games men’s hockey, boasting 17 gold medals since 1971 and finishing as runner-up only once — in 1973, in Singapore.
