Malaysia’s SEA Games medal winners are set to receive a major morale and financial boost after confirmation that all gold medallists will be awarded RM20,000, reinforcing national appreciation for excellence on the ASEAN stage.
The incentive applies to athletes who clinch SEA Games gold medals involving participation from eight to 11 ASEAN nations, underlining the competitive value of the achievement at regional level.
In addition to the RM20,000 gold incentive, Muaythai and Kickboxing athletes also received special performance-based bonuses from the President of PMM, continuing a tradition that has been in place since the Philippines SEA Games.
These bonuses were structured based on:
- Match outcomes (3-0, 2-1, or KO)
- Competition stages (early rounds, semi-finals, finals)
Notably, the bonuses were credited on the same day, reflecting efficient administration and immediate recognition of athlete performances.
Presidential Bonus Recipients
Gold
- Waikru – Angie Yan Jia Chi: RM7,000
- Men’s 54kg – Wassof Rumijam: RM7,000 (Semi-final TKO)
- Men’s 57kg – Miki Ghazali: RM6,000
Silver
- Women’s 48kg – Eva: RM1,000
- Women’s 51kg – Amisha: RM1,500
- Men’s 51kg – Insyad Rumijam: RM1,500
Bronze
- Waikru – Asyraf: RM500
- Women’s 45kg – Damia: RM1,000
Kickboxing
- Bronze – Kueggan: RM1,000
National Sports Council (MSN) Incentives
Meanwhile, the National Sports Council (MSN) will officially disburse:
- RM20,000 for Gold
- RM3,000 for Silver
- RM1,000 for Bronze
A special appreciation ceremony will be organised to honour all medal-winning athletes.
Call for Wider Incentive Recognition
There is also hope that silver and bronze medallists will receive additional incentives, given their vital contribution to Malaysia’s overall medal tally and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) target of 200 medals for the nation.
