Malaysian-American boxer Johan Ghazali faced a tough defeat against Colombian-American fighter Diego Paez by split decision in the Muay Thai flyweight bout at ONE Fight Night 32, held at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, Bangkok.
The bout, contested in the flyweight division, was a showcase of raw talent, heart, and unrelenting pace, as both men stood toe-to-toe in one of the most electrifying matchups of the night.
From the opening bell, 17-year-old Ghazali lived up to his billing as one of ONE Championship’s most exciting prospects, applying constant forward pressure with crisp combinations and a tight defensive guard. However, the 31-year-old Paez remained composed under fire, using slick movement, unpredictable angles, and sharp counters to frustrate the young phenom.
Paez’s standout moments came from his creative arsenal – landing multiple spinning elbows and backfists, all while maintaining range and rhythm. His footwork and timing proved vital in neutralizing Ghazali’s aggressive advances.
Although Ghazali never relented in pace or effort, it was Paez who landed the more effective, accurate strikes throughout the three rounds. When the final bell rang, the judges awarded Paez a split decision victory, handing Ghazali his first career loss on the global stage.
The win boosts Paez’s professional record to 8-3 and marks his first triumph in ONE Championship, elevating his status as a true threat in the flyweight Muay Thai ranks.
While Ghazali’s unbeaten run may have ended, the defeat is expected to serve as a vital chapter in his development. At just 17, the Malaysian-American remains one of the most promising talents in combat sports, and his gritty showing against a seasoned veteran further cements his potential.
