MotoGP has officially canceled the 2024 Valencia GP, originally scheduled as the season’s final round at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, following devastating floods in the Valencia region.
In light of the disaster, MotoGP has pledged to support the local community’s recovery efforts, redirecting their resources and collective impact to relief funds for the area.
In a heartfelt statement, MotoGP expressed solidarity with the Valencia community: “Our hearts are with all those who have been lost and those who have lost so much.” The championship has been in close contact with local authorities and the circuit, prioritizing a response that supports recovery over sport.
The decision comes after extensive discussions with officials to evaluate the impact of holding the race versus the potential disruption to ongoing recovery efforts. Ultimately, MotoGP and local authorities agreed that canceling the Valencia GP would allow full focus on relief efforts without diverting essential resources.
Instead of racing at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, MotoGP announced a commitment to “race for Valencia.” Beginning at the Malaysian GP, the championship will rally behind fundraising initiatives, channeling the strength and reach of MotoGP to aid affected communities.
MotoGP plans to reschedule the 2024 finale, with details on a new venue and date to be announced soon. “Fans, athletes, and paddock deserve a sporting finale to the 2024 season,” MotoGP stated, while reinforcing its commitment to helping the people of Valencia.
Further information on the final race of the season will follow as soon as arrangements are confirmed.
