Kuala Lumpur City has officially confirmed the appointment of Serbian tactician Risto Vidakovic as the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2025/26 season.
The announcement was made via the club’s official social media platforms, accompanied by a message that reflects high optimism and a bold vision:
“A new chapter begins for The City Boys. An experienced coach from this part of the world is here to take us forward!
Let’s build something great together. Welcome to the capital, Coach Risto Vidakovic!”
Vidakovic arrives with an impressive coaching résumé that spans multiple countries and leagues. Best known to Malaysian fans for his previous stint with Melaka United FC, the Serbian brings a blend of tactical acumen and regional familiarity.
His coaching career includes managing clubs such as Cádiz and Real Betis B in Spain, Ceres-Negros in the Philippines – where he led the club to multiple league titles – as well as Lion City Sailors in Singapore, Borneo FC, and PSS Sleman in Indonesia.
He replaces fellow countryman Miroslav Kuljanac, with whom he shares a similar coaching pedigree. Prior to the official appointment, regional football icon Fandi Ahmad was among the names linked to the KL City job.
Following the high-profile coaching change, fans are now eagerly anticipating a wave of new player signings, with several names already swirling in the rumour mill. Notably, Manuel Hidalgo, Safawi Rasid, and Syamer Kutty Abba have all been linked with a potential move to KL City FC.
With Vidakovic at the helm, KL City aims to reignite its competitive edge in the Malaysia Super League. The management and supporters alike hope that his international experience and leadership will drive the club back into contention for silverware.
