Alex Marquez of BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP has undergone successful surgery in Madrid following a crash at the Motul Grand Prix of the Netherlands, which left the Spaniard with a fractured left hand.
The incident occurred during a high-stakes battle with rising star Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) and was later classified as a racing incident by the FIM MotoGP Stewards. Medical checks at the circuit’s facility revealed a subcapital fracture of the second metacarpal in his left hand. Marquez was seen leaving the medical center with his hand heavily bandaged and was immediately declared unfit to race.
Despite the setback, there was some good news for the Gresini camp. The team released an official statement confirming the surgery’s success:
“The surgical procedure for the subcapital fracture of the second metacarpal of the left hand was successfully completed. Further updates on @alexmarquez73’s recovery will follow in the next days.”
The injury comes at a critical time for Alex Marquez, who is currently second in the MotoGP World Championship standings and in the thick of a title chase alongside his brother, Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo Team), and reigning champion Francesco Bagnaia.
With uncertainty now surrounding his participation in the upcoming rounds, the injury could deal a significant blow to his championship aspirations. The Gresini team and fans alike will be watching closely as updates on his recovery timeline are expected in the coming days.
While the successful surgery marks a positive first step, the next question is when Marquez will return. MotoGP’s demanding calendar leaves little room for extended recovery, and any prolonged absence could prove costly in the tightly contested title race.
As one of the breakout stars of the 2025 season, Alex Marquez has shown remarkable pace and consistency. His return will be eagerly anticipated—not just by his team, but by fans of the sport worldwide.
