Johor Darul Ta’Zim (JDT) continued to demonstrate their dominance with a 3-1 victory over Sabah FC in the Liga Super Malaysia 2024/25 at Likas Stadium, Kota Kinabalu.
Despite a strong start from Sabah, Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s squad fell behind in the 20th minute. Romel Morales capitalized on a corner kick from Arif Aiman Hanapi, slotting the ball into the net while goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat was caught out of position.
Morales struck again in the 43rd minute, finishing a one-on-one situation against Khairul Fahmi to extend JDT’s lead to 2-0.
Sabah managed to reduce the deficit in the 51st minute when Gabriel Peres successfully converted a penalty kick. The penalty was awarded after Sabah FC captain Park Taesu was fouled by JDT’s Matthew Davies in a chaotic scene inside the visitors’ penalty box.
However, JDT sealed their victory in stoppage time with a penalty kick converted by Bergson Da Silva, making it 3-1 and securing all three points for the defending champions.
