Bangkok United, a club from Thailand take the first victory after beating Tampines Rovers, a club from Singapore scoring 4-2 in the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25 Group Stage, Group G at Thammasat Stadium, Pathum Thani.
The Thai side showed early dominance, with Muhsen leading the charge in the 10th minute, setting up Richairo Zivkovic for a left-footed shot that was saved by the Tampines goalkeeper. Thitiphan Puangchan also tested the keeper with a powerful long-range effort in the 15th minute, but it too was parried away.
Tampines Rovers fought back with a long-range attempt by Kyo Nakamura in the 17th minute, but the ball flew wide of the target. Bangkok United’s relentless pressure continued, and in the 39th minute, Mahmoud dribbled past his marker on the right wing and delivered a pass to Zivkovic, whose shot was miraculously cleared off the line by Shunya Yamashita.
The breakthrough came deep into first-half stoppage time. In the 45+3rd minute, Pokklaw Anan found Muhsen with a precise pass, and the forward coolly slotted the ball into the net to give Bangkok United a 1-0 lead at the break.
Tampines responded quickly after halftime. In the 53rd minute, Sean Kunori’s deflected shot off Manuel Tom Bihr found the back of the net, leveling the score at 1-1. However, Bangkok United regained their advantage just 10 minutes later when Muhsen netted his second of the match from a corner kick delivered by Peerapat, making it 2-1.
The Singaporean side refused to back down, and in the 72nd minute, Seia Kunori struck again with a stunning right-footed shot from outside the box, bringing the score to 2-2.
Bangkok United regained control when Zivkovic was fouled in the penalty area in the 75th minute. The Dutch forward stepped up and calmly converted from the spot in the 77th minute, putting his team ahead 3-2.
As the match entered stoppage time, Bassel Jradi sealed the victory for Bangkok United in the 90+5th minute, racing onto a long ball from goalkeeper Patiwat Khammai and finishing with a powerful right-footed strike to make it 4-2.
The final whistle blew soon after, confirming Bangkok United’s first win of the group stage.
