Malaysian Football League (MFL) today announced that Melaka United FC will not be allowed to play in the 2022 TM Piala Malaysia tournament following the club’s failure to pay the salary arrears of players and officials.
The decision was made by the MFL Board of Directors after the Liga Super club, Melaka United, failed to settle salary arrears as per the set date.
Melaka United has received a reminder notice on 6 September 2022 to settle all salary arrears or reach an agreement with the officials and players involved until 20 September 2022.
However, today (21 September 2022), Melaka United can only submit proof of payment until June 2022.
“Melaka United failed to comply with the instructions that have been issued where they only make the payment of the remaining salary arrears until June 2022. In addition, they have also not obtained an agreement with the players and officials for the payment of the remaining salary arrears.
“So for that reason, the MFL Board of Directors decided not to allow Melaka United to compete in the TM Piala Malaysia competition this season.
“MFL reminds that Melaka United can settle the remaining salary arrears to prevent them from being granted a license to compete in the Malaysian League 2023,” explained MFL in an official statement today.
With regard to the Melaka United slot replacement team for TM Piala Malaysia, the MFL will make an announcement in the near future.
Meanwhile, Sarawak United FC has cleared all outstanding salary payments to players until August 2022. Outstanding salary payments to team officials have been paid until July 2022, however, Sarawak United and team officials have reached a mutual agreement regarding the August 2022 salary arrears.
“Despite the effort shown by the management of Sarawak United to resolve these salary arrears, the MFL still warns Sarawak United so that this kind of issue does not happen again which could affect the license to compete in the Malaysia League 2023,”
