Malaysian men’s singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao produced one of the biggest results of the opening day at the Polytron Indonesia Open 2026 after stunning Japan’s Kodai Naraoka in straight games to advance to the Round of 16.
Competing in the prestigious HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament, Jun Hao displayed remarkable composure and tactical discipline to secure a convincing 21-17, 21-17 victory over the former world silver medallist.
The result represents a significant boost for Malaysian badminton, with Jun Hao continuing to build momentum against some of the world’s elite players.

Malaysia also celebrated success in men’s doubles as seventh seeds Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani comfortably progressed to the next round.
The Malaysian pair defeated Singapore’s Wesley Koh-Junsuke Kubo 21-17, 21-16 in a controlled performance that showcased their attacking quality and growing consistency on the BWF World Tour.
Having enjoyed an impressive campaign throughout the season, Sze Fei and Izzuddin once again demonstrated why they remain among the strongest contenders in the men’s doubles draw.
Mixed doubles pair Jimmy Wong-Cheng Su Yin faced a difficult opening-round challenge against top seeds Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping of China and were defeated 19-21, 18-21 despite a spirited performance.
Meanwhile, men’s doubles duo Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong also exited the tournament after losing 18-21, 10-21 to India’s Hariharan Amsakarunan-Ruban Kumar Rethinasabapathi.
Another Malaysian mixed Korean men’s doubles pair, Choi Sol Gyu-Goh V Shem, were eliminated after a 18-21, 15-21 defeat against French brothers Christo Popov and Toma Junior Popov.
