Indonesia delivered one of its most convincing performances under the bright lights of the Garuda Championship Series, cruising to a commanding 3-0 victory over Oman at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta.
In front of a passionate home crowd, the Garuda squad combined defensive discipline with clinical finishing to secure a statement win, with Justin Hubner, Ole Romeny, and Ragnar Oratmangoen all finding the back of the net in a dominant display.
Indonesia showed attacking intent from the opening whistle and nearly struck inside seven minutes when Nathan Tjoe-A-On connected with a dangerous delivery from Rizky Ridho, only for the Oman goalkeeper to produce an important save.
The breakthrough arrived in the 13th minute. A well-worked set-piece from the left flank saw Nathan deliver an inviting cross into the penalty area, where Justin Hubner rose highest to power a header into the far corner, sending the Gelora Bung Karno faithful into celebration.
The goal rewarded Indonesia’s aggressive start and gave the hosts complete control of the contest.
Indonesia continued to dictate proceedings and doubled their advantage midway through the first half.
An attempted clearance by the Oman defence went horribly wrong, allowing Ole Romeny to pounce on the loose ball. The striker remained composed before firing a low effort beyond the goalkeeper to make it 2-0 in the 27th minute.
Romeny’s opportunism highlighted Indonesia’s growing confidence as the hosts repeatedly forced Oman into mistakes with relentless pressing.
Despite their dominance, Indonesia faced a potential setback in the 37th minute when Oman were awarded a penalty after Hubner mistimed a challenge inside the box.
However, goalkeeper Emil Audero produced a crucial intervention. Reading the intentions of Nasser Sultan perfectly, Audero dived the right way to make an excellent save and preserve Indonesia’s two-goal cushion heading into halftime.
The penalty stop proved to be a pivotal moment, maintaining Indonesia’s momentum while extinguishing Oman’s hopes of mounting a comeback.
Oman attempted to increase the pressure after the restart, but Indonesia remained organised and dangerous on the counterattack.
The decisive third goal arrived in the 56th minute. A sharp attacking move involving Dony Tri Pamungkas and Ivar Jenner carved open the Oman defence before Ragnar Oratmangoen finished from close range. Although his initial effort was blocked, the forward reacted quickest to convert the rebound and extend Indonesia’s lead to 3-0.
From that point onward, Indonesia controlled the tempo expertly, with Rizky Ridho and the backline ensuring Oman rarely threatened Audero’s goal.
The victory showcased the increasing maturity and balance within the Indonesian squad. Hubner was influential at both ends of the pitch, Romeny continued his impressive goalscoring form, while Oratmangoen’s attacking movement caused constant problems for the visitors.
Equally important was the performance of Emil Audero, whose penalty save ensured Indonesia maintained complete control during a critical phase of the match.
With confidence high and momentum building, Indonesia will now turn its attention to its next Garuda Championship Series fixture against Mozambique on June 9, once again at the iconic Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
