Malaysian men’s singles shuttler Leong Jun Hao produced one of the biggest results of the opening day at the Polytron Indonesia Open 2026 after stunning Japan’s Kodai Naraoka in straight games to advance to the Round of 16.
Competing in the prestigious HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1000 tournament, Jun Hao displayed remarkable composure and tactical discipline to secure a convincing 21-17, 21-17 victory over the former world silver medallist.
The result represents a significant boost for Malaysian badminton, with Jun Hao continuing to build momentum against some of the world’s elite players.
Facing one of the most consistent players on the international circuit, Jun Hao refused to be intimidated by Naraoka’s reputation and relentless defensive style.
The Malaysian dictated the pace throughout the encounter, combining aggressive attacking play with excellent court coverage to keep the Japanese star under constant pressure.
After taking the opening game 21-17, Jun Hao maintained his intensity in the second set, limiting Naraoka’s opportunities to launch a comeback before sealing another 21-17 victory and one of the standout wins of his season.

The Malaysian pair defeated Singapore’s Wesley Koh-Junsuke Kubo 21-17, 21-16 in a controlled performance that showcased their attacking quality and growing consistency on the BWF World Tour.
Having enjoyed an impressive campaign throughout the season, Sze Fei and Izzuddin once again demonstrated why they remain among the strongest contenders in the men’s doubles draw.
