Johor Darul Ta’zim midfield general Afiq Fazail has officially extended his contract with the Southern Tigers for another two seasons, further cementing his legendary status at the club following another historic milestone in the 2025/26 campaign.
The 31-year-old midfielder continues to etch his name into JDT folklore after becoming the club’s all-time appearance holder during the Malaysia Cup final victory over Kuching City FC at the TM Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil.
Afiq made his 272nd appearance for JDT in the final, surpassing the previous record of 270 matches held by club icon Safiq Rahim. The achievement underlined his remarkable consistency and longevity since making his debut for the Southern Tigers in January 2017.
The midfield maestro also created another piece of history by becoming the first JDT player to feature in seven Malaysia Cup finals since joining the club, highlighting his importance across one of the most dominant eras in Malaysian football history.
Since arriving in Johor, Afiq has developed into one of the most influential midfielders in the Liga Super Malaysia, renowned for his composure, tactical intelligence, passing range, and leadership qualities. His partnership with several generations of JDT stars has helped the club maintain its supremacy domestically while growing its reputation on the Asian stage.
The contract extension is viewed as another major boost for head coach Xisco Muñoz ahead of a demanding new season that includes the Malaysia Super League, Malaysia Cup, FA Cup, and AFC Champions League Elite campaign.
Afiq’s continued presence also provides invaluable experience and stability within a squad that blends elite foreign talent with Malaysia’s top local players.
JDT’s decision to retain one of their most loyal and decorated servants reflects the club’s commitment to preserving its winning culture while continuing to build for future success.
