The Johor state government has officially declared Monday, 25 May 2026 as a special public holiday following Johor Darul Ta’zim’s triumph in the Malaysia Cup 2025/26 final.
The announcement was made through an official press statement issued by Johor State Secretary Datuk Mohammed Ridha bin Dato’ Abd Kadir on 23 May 2026, after receiving consent from Tunku Mahkota Ismail, Regent of Johor, alongside Johor Menteri Besar Dato’ Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
The declaration comes as recognition of JDT’s outstanding achievement in successfully lifting the prestigious Malaysia Cup trophy, further extending the Southern Tigers’ era of dominance in Malaysian football.
According to the statement, the special holiday is intended as a gesture of appreciation not only to the club for its remarkable success, but also to the Johor state government and the people of Johor who have continuously provided unwavering support to the team throughout the season.
The statement also confirmed that the declaration is in line with Section 9 of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369).
JDT’s latest triumph once again highlighted the club’s extraordinary consistency on the domestic stage, with the Southern Tigers continuing to establish themselves as the benchmark of Malaysian football excellence.
The atmosphere across Johor has turned festive following the announcement, with supporters celebrating both the club’s success and the state government’s recognition of the achievement through a public holiday.
The move reflects the deep connection between JDT and the people of Johor, where football has evolved beyond sport to become a major symbol of unity, pride and identity for the state.
The special holiday is also expected to further fuel excitement ahead of the massive title celebration event at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on 30 May 2026, which is set to feature international music superstar 50 Cent alongside several global entertainment acts in conjunction with JDT’s historic achievements.
