Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente believes his side must deliver their very best and “win the details” when they face defending champions Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final, describing Sunday’s showdown as a battle between two footballing superpowers.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated final, De La Fuente acknowledged the magnitude of the occasion while expressing confidence that his European champions are ready to challenge Lionel Scaloni’s experienced Argentina side.
For De La Fuente, simply reaching the World Cup final is already a remarkable achievement—but lifting the trophy remains the ultimate objective.
“Playing in a World Cup final is incredibly important. Even more so when you have the opportunity to win it.”
Spain enter the final aiming to add the World Cup crown to their UEFA Euro title, while Argentina are chasing back-to-back World Cup triumphs after winning the 2022 edition.
The Spain boss was full of praise for Argentina, highlighting the consistency and elite level they have maintained over several years under Lionel Scaloni.
“We’re facing a national team that has been performing at a very high level for many years.”
Rather than viewing the match as a clash of contrasting styles, De La Fuente believes the two finalists share many footballing principles.
“Scaloni and I share many ideas and ways of thinking. I don’t believe our teams are that different.”

“We’re going to see a match between two outstanding teams.”
