Amir Ghalenoei, head coach of the Iran national team, has called for national unity and solidarity while condemning recent military actions against Iran, stating that collective strength is the key to overcoming the country’s current challenges.
Speaking in remarks published by the Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran, the veteran coach expressed deep concern over the impact of the conflict on civilians and national institutions, while urging Iranians to remain united during the difficult period.
Ghalenoei began by offering condolences following the reported death of senior Iranian leader Ali Khamenei and criticized what he described as aggressive actions by Israel and the United States.
According to the Iranian national team boss, attacks targeting civilians contradict the values often promoted by those involved in the conflict.
“The killing of civilians goes against the slogans they claim to uphold,” Ghalenoei said.
He also referenced an incident involving a school in Minab, describing it as a tragic event that resulted in the deaths of young students.
“I would like to express my condolences to the families of the schoolgirls who lost their lives,” he added.
The coach also spoke about damage reportedly inflicted on sporting infrastructure in Iran, particularly referencing the 12,000-seat indoor arena that has served as a symbol of Iranian sport for decades.
Ghalenoei said the venue had long been a place where national teams achieved major sporting successes and where generations of fans created lasting memories.
“When such a facility is targeted, it shows there are no red lines,” he said.
“However, the collective memories of the Iranian people are not in buildings. They live in the hearts of the people and cannot be destroyed.”
Ghalenoei also voiced his support for members of the Iran women’s national football team, who had recently faced difficult circumstances during an international trip to Australia.
He acknowledged that the team had experienced a challenging environment abroad but noted that most players were returning home and would soon reunite with their families.
While a small number of players reportedly chose to remain overseas following external influences, Ghalenoei emphasised that Iran remains a safe place for female footballers.
“Iran is the safest place for these girls, and they can return home,” he said.
Concluding his remarks, the Iran head coach highlighted the strong sense of unity among the Iranian people during the current period.
“What we see in these days is the unity and solidarity of the Iranian people,” he said.
Ghalenoei expressed confidence that with national cohesion and mutual support, the country would be able to navigate through the difficult circumstances and eventually return to normal life.
