Malaysia’s women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah continued their sparkling form by storming into the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Open 2025, living up to their billing as the tournament’s second seeds.
Fresh off their World Championships runner-up finish in Paris just two weeks ago, Pearly-Thinaah showed no signs of fatigue as they dismissed compatriots Go Pei Kee and Teoh Mei Xing in straight games, 21-12, 21-15, in just 31 minutes at the Hong Kong Coliseum.
The victory edges them closer to defending the title they won last year, but sterner challenges await. Standing between them and a place in the final is the world No. 4 Chinese pair, Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian, who advanced after thrashing Taiwan’s Hsieh Pei Shan and Hung En Tzu 21-12, 21-7 in another quarter-final clash.
Pearly-Thinaah etched their names in history last year by winning the Hong Kong Open 2024 after defeating China’s Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning in the final. Tomorrow’s semi-final showdown promises to be another stern test as they look to hold onto their crown and continue their rise among the world’s elite.
