Malaysia men’s national badminton team showcased resilience and depth to secure a convincing 4-1 victory over Finland men’s national badminton team in their second Group B tie at the Thomas Cup 2026, held at Forum Horsens.
After a shaky start, Malaysia responded emphatically—winning four consecutive matches to take control of the tie and move a step closer to the knockout stage.
Malaysia were dealt an early blow as Leong Jun Hao fell in straight games to Joakim Oldorff, 21-17, 21-15, handing Finland a surprise 1-0 lead.
The response was immediate. Justin Hoh leveled the tie with a composed 21-14, 21-12 win over Kalle Koljonen, restoring momentum for Malaysia.
Then stepped up Lee Zii Jia, who delivered a clinical performance to defeat Ananda Galvani Daniswara 21-19, 21-10—putting Malaysia ahead 2-1.
Malaysia’s doubles strength once again proved decisive. Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani extended the lead with a solid 21-12, 21-15 victory over Eliel Melleri and Niilo Nyqvist.
The tie was sealed in style as Soh Wooi Yik and Tee Kai Wun dominated their match, brushing aside Alwar Melleri and Daniswara 21-7, 21-14.
With two wins from two ties, Malaysia now reaching quarter-final after sits in a strong position in Group B, with momentum firmly on their side heading into the decisive game of the group stage.
